TRING RUNNING CLUB run the best of the Chilterns
|
These are observations from a hill ....It may seem odd that a running club in the depths of Hertfordshire should have a page about fell running, but for the many years we have been one of the few clubs from south of Derbyshire to be represented at the national Fell Running Association relays. Generally we manage to field two teams of six, both of which finish in respectable positions.
We are lucky enough to have a few really good, and experienced, fell runners in the club (no fewer than five of our membership have completed the famed Bob Graham round in the Lake District). As well as this, we have run a club trip to the Lake District every other year (on even years), and this has given an opportunity for many of the membership to try fell running.
The Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon is often one of the most popular events of the year, and every year one of two new people are inveigled into the joys of fell running. The feeling of freedom you get from running along the tops, the exhilaration of long, swift almost break-neck descents and (it has to be said) the unrelenting effort of a 1500 to 2000 foot climb are something all runners should experience at some stage. Wonderful!
