I come from a swimming back ground. I did not get very far in that sport
proberly because of a number of reasons, height (too short), Club, not
the best but I did have determination and got to swim for my county
3 times. I took up running because it was easier to just leave the house
and go. I have moved around a fair bit since the age of 19 living in
many different areas, including Germany where I lived for 3 years. During
all this I have always managed to find a pool (quite often there was
one on the RAF Camp we were posted too) and kept my hand in, as they
say. To this day I am still a 'good' swimmer but it is the running that
I do far more of. I would like to do more Triathlons but the expense
of it counts me out. I take part in the annual 3 RAF Tri's, which I
have been doing for the last 4 years. I enjoy Orienteering with my daughter,
now that's a skill I am picking up slowly but it is a lot of fun. Fell
running is another running skill that seems to evade me, having to navigate
around the mountains as well as getting from A to B by the quickest
possible route, again full of enthusiasum but a skill that will take
me years to master. Of course you also need time in the Mountains to
be able to practice your skills and train on the hills, time which many
of us do not have.
