At school and university I was mainly into team sports (rugby then rowing). I was also very keen on rock climbing and mountaineering. I tried orienteering at university and, after giving up rock climbing started to take it more seriously. Once I tried Mountain Marathons I got hooked, realizing that being in the mountains, running over rough terrain with a bit of navigation suited me well. I like to do the long fell races and search out multi-terrain races (the rougher the better), mixing it in with a few road races and duathlons (the Box Hill Ballbuster is a favourite because of the bias towards runners and the hills) Recent PBs
Highlights Twice winner of Saunders MM Klets course 1996 & 2000 5th (2nd V40) Mountain Trial 2006 6th in Tough Guy Multiterrain, Wolverhampton ( a while ago) Finishing Scottish 4000's Duathlon in 2003(run all the 4000ft mountains near Ben Nevis, cycle 61 miles to the Cairngorms and run all the 4000ft mountains there) Overtaking 2 people whilst bouncing down the precipitous descent to the finish of the Long Mynd Valleys fell race on my head. Aims Top 5 place in LAMM Good result at Mountain Trial (help Tring RC to get in the team prizes: that'll show the northern clubs !) Try some more cross country races to sharpen up my speed over shorter distances In future: At some stage do a road marathon (but I'd want to make sure I got a good time) Maybe get into adventure racing ?
