I
didn't run until my late twenties unfortunately, though I do remember
running through town for mile or so not to miss a bus and wondering
why I enjoyed it! My first race was the Reading Half Marathon where
I surprised myself with a good time (under 1:22), so on moving to Tring
in 1990 I joined the club. If you like varied and hilly off-road running
it's perfect, I always run from my door. I've discovered that my ideal
racing time is between 30 minutes and an hour, so a cross country race
like Wendover Woods Hill Race or a village style fell race like Causey
Pike; a half marathon is my big distance event.

Highlights
Running as part of the club's fell running relay team - in the Peak
District, Lake District etc.
Aims
To stay ahead of Tony Ruberry when he gets fast again! Not to run
the London Marathon.
Rave Run
Hardwick cross country near Aylesbury in February. Stream crossings,
ploughed fields, hills, and takes me around forty minutes which is
my ideal racing time. Or anywhere you can run barefoot on the beach
then jump in the sea, the only gear you need for running is shoes
and here you don't even need these!
Best Training Run
Any route taking in Pitstone Hill. Just that I find it hard not to
stop and take in the view and wonder, so best done in a group! Or
around Wendover Woods, lots of up and down in an hour, gets me fit
for trips to the mountains.
