I started running at the age of 36 after viewing my profile in the mirror one Christmas, and deciding I had to lose weight somehow. Running seemed a better way of doing it than giving up beer! Much to my surprise, once I started, I not only enjoyed running immensely, but was far better at it than I ever thought I would be.
I joined Tring Jogging Club (as it was then) the following summer and for a couple of years was a dedicated road runner. But then the first Easter trip to the Lake District was arranged, and before I knew what was happening I was deemed a fell runner. I haven't run regularly on road since.
I have had many happy running (and non-running) experiences with the club, particularly some of the weekend trips which have combined good running and good food and drink with good company.

Highlights
The Schilthorn Half Marathon (my best race ever!), and being sixth in class in my first Saunders Mountain Marathon.
Aims
To run at least one PB as a 50+ vet.
Rave Run
Of the races I run annually, Beachy Head and Box Hill must be my favourites. If I had to pick a road race it would be the Berko Half or Pednor 5. You may notice that these are all quite hilly runs!
Best Training Run
Anything around Ashridge; you can set off with nothing planned and easily run for a couple of hours, hardly touching road, and making it as hilly or as flat as you want.
