A Swedish adventure

Parkrun events typically take place on Saturday mornings, but there are two designated “Special Days” each year where events can hold additional parkruns. These special days are New Year’s Day and a country-specific date, which in the UK is Christmas Day but some other countries choose other dates such as their National Day etc. Last Thursday was Sweden’s special day and so this meant that in 8 days you could run 3 Swedish parkruns. Which is exactly what the Adcock family did for the half-term week. Emma and Neil Adcock combined their holiday in Sweden with the extra parkrun at Haga, Stockholm before running at Judarskogen, Stockholm on Saturday after having run at Örebro on the previous Saturday. It sounds like a great trip. Not surprisingly they were our furthest travelled and Adcock is now the most seen TRC name in Sweden.

Guess which country the Adcock family are visiting

Numbers were back up this week with 46 of us parkrunning with 17 at Wendover and the rest scattered across a variety of parkruns partially due to the half term and bank holiday week.

We had a couple of milestones this week – Well done to Chris Bill who ran his 300th parkrun this week at Wendover (48% Wendover, 41% Tring, 11% tourism) and Simon Stevenson who ran his 200th, also at Wendover (65% Wendover, 25% Tring, 10% other).

Not only did Tom and Paul choose one of the tougher parkruns but they seem to have got some typical Lake District weather too whilst the rest of us had hot sunshine

Great to see Clare Murphy and Jules Wake both back from injury. Clare also had our most aesthetically pleasing time with a matching 36:36 at Wendover Woods.

Good to see Jules running again

Geoff Roser was our only member to get a course PB this week, knocking 1 minute 42 seconds off his previous time at Wendover Woods.

Guess what time I was pacing at Cassiobury!

And finally, looking at the podiums – Well done to Lynda Hembury who was first female at Dunstable Downs and to Josh Frewin who was 2nd overall at Rushmere.

For your diaries – Next TRC monthly parkrun outing is to Cassiobury on 28th June. A fast local tarmac course and as it is the last Saturday in the month there will be pacers from Watford Joggers to help if you want to aim for a time.
