Chiltern League finale & ORC update

Liz O’Keeffe (team captain)

A true cross country experience!

Saturday marked the final cross-country race of the season, and for those who love a true XC challenge—this was the one. Think gloopy mud, steep hills, submerged roots, slippery wooden planks, cold drizzle—everything that makes cross-country running exhilarating.

I had heard stories about the endless mud and had seen the aftermath on the men’s legs, but nothing could quite prepare me for the sheer amount of wet, gloopy terrain. This was the kind of race that every runner should have on their CV!

Massive congratulations to Lydia Vye and Matt Ball for tackling their first-ever cross-country race in such brutal conditions—hope to see you both back next year!

Achievements:

Tring Running Club placed 3rd in the Dennis Orme Award, recognizing the club with the largest percentage increase in participants from the previous season—an outstanding achievement!

We finished 11th out of 16 teams in Division 1, a huge result considering we don’t have a junior section. The two juniors who did run for us, Huw Moreton and Elizabeth Barrett, were absolutely incredible.

Individual awards:

  • Mark Innocenti won the V40 category
  • John Manning won the V70 category

A huge well done to everyone who took part—you truly embraced the mud and made this final race one to remember!

ORC Update

This was the second race in the 2025 off-road-championships. Sarah and Ben are currently leading the seniors, with Liz and Tom out in front in the vets competition.
