Spring sunshine

The great weather continued on Saturday and 48 of us were parkrunning, including 15 at Wendover Woods, 12 at Dunstable Downs and 5 at St Albans.

TRC visit a sunny St Albans

A very pleasant morning sitting in the warm sunshine afterwards for our coffees etc. The St Albans route used to be 3 flat laps around the lake but now is a more undulating and arguably more scenic run around a local disused golf course with the cathedral as a distant backdrop.

Well done to Josh Frewin who was 1st at Rushmere, Neil Adcock (2nd at Bug Hunter Waters), Tom Moreton (2nd at Wendover), Louise Bladen (3rd female at Dunstable) and Lynda Hembury (3rd female at Rothay Park).

Congrats to Kirsty Dance who continued her recent return to form and knocked a few seconds off her course PB at Dunstable Downs.

With us now being in March it’s “Happy birthday for 10 years of parkrunning” to Dave Cary and Louise Bladen who both started parkrunning at Tring in March 2015.

Sue and family were the “most North” and “Furthest Travelled” at Crathes Castle

Sue Frewin is our first current member to visit Crathes Castle near Aberdeen where Ken Douglas, a former TRC member, is now Event Director. With no international travelers this week she was our furthest travelled. Neil and Emma Adcock were the first to visit Bug Hunter Waters in Cambridgeshire. The local lake getting its name from a young child in a local naming competition.

Jules ran at Abingdon – a picturesque route alongside the Thames
Alison and Chris ran at Lyme Park. This National Trust site has often been used in TV/film adaptions of Jane Austin novels although possibly not this particular shed

Back in February we were looking to see if you could guess the most visited (by TRC) parkruns beginning with “M”. Well the answers are Milton Keynes (which at one point in parkrun history was our nearest parkrun), Market Harborough (thanks to Lydia Vye) and Margate (thanks primarily to Mary and Mike Ward). An honorable mention for Mura di Lucca which given that its in Tuscany was doing well to be in a close placed 4th.

Next, we move on to the letter “N”. For 2 of these 3, our secretary Maddi could help you out and they can be found in North London and the South Coast, whilst the 3rd one can be found on an island that is part of the British Isles but not in the UK.

Date for your calendar is the next TRC parkrun outing with a trip south to the popular trail route at Church Mead Farm in Amersham. The hilly trail route is ideal if you are scared of flat tarmac! So book in an Easter Saturday date of the 19th April in your diaries for this – hope to see you there.
